Following Your Inner Voice

Whether or not it is acknowledged by all, music is to a great extent an intuitive process, and musicians tend to possess a high degree of intuition.  Singers can draw on their intuitive capabilities to help them make important decisions about their priorities and the steps they will take in guiding their career.

Unfortunately, we live in a society where intuition is still not greatly valued as an aid in making decisions.  Logic and science are valued above all else, but this is based on the illogical premise that the logical mind possesses all knowledge in the universe and has all the information that is needed to make a well-informed decision in every circumstance.

The use of one's intuition connects one with the Deity and enables one to draw on the greater wisdom of the universe.  One may need to learn how to listen to one's intuition if one has been taught to ignore it all one's life.

Meditation, prayer, spiritual reading, making or listening to music, writing, exercises such as yoga and tai chi, and frequent contact with nature help one to cultivate one's intuition.  When one is about to make a decision, one may feel a rush of power and certainty that one is right, or a feeling of doubt and resistance, warning one not to act now.  One can make note of the types of feelings one experienced when performing a certain action, and later check to see whether the action seemed to bear good or bad fruits.  One can write about one's experiences in a journal.  The act of writing helps one to sort through one's thoughts and emotions, and gain greater self-realization.  In this way, one can learn to cultivate and to interpret the promptings of one's intuition.

It is important to realize that intuition is a gift from the Universe, and not merely a wisdom which we alone possess.  When we follow the guide of our intuition, we are following the Universe's higher plan for us.

Intuition is not the enemy of one's rational mind, but can serve to guide it into productive channels and to help one to see the bigger, long-range picture of one's life.
